Real villain must not have a face or any character.

As soon as a villain is a person, as soon as it/he/she has a face and speaks and expresses some kind of human-like interest than it is not a good villain.

Real villain has no face or emotions. It has no character. It is a pure monster. It just destroys. It does not destroy to create something - this is too nice. It destroys and does not care about anything.

This is how the ultimate monster works, the ultimate villain.

There are many versions of villains and monsters in popular stories but this is the most evil one, the one everybody will be afraid.

My favourite monsters are Cthulhu by Lovecraft, Devil from the Bible, and Monster of ID from the Forbidden Planet with Leslie Nielsen. I think Devil is not really so evil, he serves some kind of a higher purpose, but when I classify Devil as a monster I refer to a more popular version, not it's philosophical position in the Christian narrative. Sauron is a good villain too.

A virus would be very close to a perfect monster if it was not so small and out of sight. Villains and monsters must at least have more impact and obviously plagues are not bad enough to scare people completely. Human imagination does not work well with such small things as viruses even though in practice viruses are super monsters - pure destruction, no face, no interest.

Human imagination is crucial for the monster success. But a true monster must be above imagination, it must destroy it and leave the brain empty. Monsters should not kill people but reduce them to insect level - super boring level!

Boredom is probably very close to the ultimate monster. It just eats people inside, it makes their impression of life boring and makes them boring. It is a disease.
